We find ourselves with another day which can be brought to us by the polis.
For those curious, the first one is from in or around Gothenburg and the second one from the county of Gävleborg, which is north of Stockholm.

It’s 4/16 in Freedom Units™ so have a 416HP Porsche
Also a certain Lexus that one Oppo will be more than happy to comment about...

It’s the six cylinder model. They didn’t make anything more powerful in Sweden at the time. Possibly the polis imported more powerful cars as needed.

That first V70 did belong to Finnish police forces (Poliisi) not Swedish. We had only ~2 of those. Currently police use mostly VW Transporters.

I thought all of those Volvos had the kludgy four-cylinder engines. I’d no idea that a six-pot engine existed.

Older Volvos, explained:
144: 1 series, four cylinders, four doors
265: 2 series, six cylinders, five doors
343: 3 series, four cylinders, three doors
Later it all went to pot.

I think there is a funny story of some forces in the UK buying Volvo 164s with electronic fuel injection - and the engine would promptly die as soon as the police radio was used.
Cannot remember whether the problem was the system’s flimsy screening or the actual radio fitment, probably a bit of both?

Another numeric wonder ! I check your calendar(!) daily. Volvo 164, the Buick Volvo.I only remember them with the Borg Warner automatic. Slow & solid, but comfy. Fuel injection on the later ones too.

I knew that, but I’ve never seen a 6 in any of them before.

They had a 3.0 inline six in the 60s and 70s before moving to the PRV V6.

Do you have much experience with Volvo? The four-cylinders always have struck me as low-energy,
very
low-excitement (and probably low compression), but probably also
immortal
.

I recognize this car, one of them nearly got wiped out in the second Beverly Hills Cop film by a Mack cement mixer.
